Your throat began hurting around lunchtime, right before you had that big afternoon work meeting to attend. By the time you arrive home, your muscles ache and you feel feverish. You walk through the door expecting to get some TLC, only to find that your husband and 8-year-old are sick, too. But it’s 7:00 at night—your doctor’s office is closed and your symptoms aren’t severe enough to go to the emergency room. Looks like you and your family are going to have to wait until morning to get the care you need to feel better.
But before you suffer overnight, there’s a better option close to home. Doctors at Montefiore Urgent Care provide high-quality care for illnesses and injuries that aren’t life-threatening and would normally be treated in doctors’ offices. Montefiore Urgent Care is a new service offered by the Montefiore Medical Group.
“We’re excited about offering this new service because people’s health shouldn’t have to wait,” says Don Raum, MD, regional medical director of Montefiore Medical Group 3 and assistant professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. “Patients can now get expert care for less serious conditions after hours without having to wait for their doctors’ offces to open or making a trip to the busy ER.”
WHEN TO TURN TO URGENT CARE
The Urgent Care center doesn’t replace the level of critical care offered in an ER or the services provided by your regular doctors. But medical professionals at the center are available when you or your family members face some of these medical issues:
- Allergies and asthma symptoms
- Bladder and urinary problems
- Sore throat, upper-respiratory infections and other symptoms of coughs, colds and the flu
- Ear and eye problems
- Muscle aches, pains, strains, sprains
- Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting
- Pain in the back, pelvis or stomach
