Oral health is such an important part of a patient’s overall health and well-being that dental specialists at Montefiore Medical Center now visit six Montefiore Medical Group (MMG) sites across the Bronx in a new mobile dental van.
“There is no other mobile dental unit like this in the country,” says Joan Grcevic, DDS, director of Community Dentistry at Montefiore and assistant clinical professor of Dentistry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. “It is a fully equipped state-of-the-art vehicle that allows us to partner with MMG community health centers to supplement the patient’s medical health with oral healthcare.”
The van has two treatment areas where a dentist and a dental hygienist provide comprehensive services—such as X-rays, teeth cleaning, fluoride treatments and sealants, fillings and partial dentures—to adults and children. Dentists can securely access MMG patients’ dental and medical records instantly and provide patients with the individualized care they need.
The van visits these MMG sites and provides dental services to patients with referrals from their MMG physicians:
